Vítejte ve třetím vydání časopisu Epocha tohoto roku. Cítíte také, že druhá polovina ledna je čas, kdy se zdá, že se nic zvláštního neděje? Zima je dlouhá a jaro je ještě daleko. Ale historie určitě nepřestává existovat. Pamatujme společně na některé důležité události.

Podle kalendáře 19. ledna připomíná výročí úmrtí Jana Palacha, které letos oslaví 55 let. Ale Palach není jediný, kdo se rozhodl protestovat tím, že se zapálil. Na stránce 29 odhalíme osud dalších živých pochodní.

Posuneme se vpřed. 25. ledna 1924 začíná Týden zimních sportů v Chamonix ve Francii. Proč tuto událost připomínáme? Protože letos slaví Zimní olympijské hry 100 let. Tato událost se stane tradicí a celosvětovým sportovním svátkem.

Skočme před několik dní. Je 27. ledna 1945 a sovětská armáda stojí před branou, nad kterou je napsáno „Arbeit macht frei“ (Práce osvobozuje). Nemají tušení, co za ní najdou. Realita je přivede na kolena, spolu se celým světem. Na stránce 62 si připomeneme Osvobození prostřednictvím osvícenství.

Welcome to the third issue of this year's Epocha magazine. Do you also feel that the second half of January is a time when nothing really happens? Winter is long, and spring feels far away. But history certainly doesn't stand still. Let's remember some important events together.

According to the calendar, January 19 marks the anniversary of Jan Palach's death, which will be 55 years this year. But Palach is not the only one who decided to protest by setting himself on fire. We will reveal the fates of other living torches on page 29.

Moving forward, on January 25, 1924, the Winter Sports Week begins in Chamonix, France. Why do we commemorate this event? Because this year, the Winter Olympic Games celebrate 100 years. This event will turn into a tradition and a worldwide sports holiday.

Jumping ahead to January 27, 1945, the Soviet army stands in front of a gate above which is written "Arbeit macht frei" (Work sets you free). They have no idea what they will find behind it. Reality will bring them to their knees, along with the whole world. On page 62, we will remember the Liberation by the Enlightenment.
